MAN and HAMMER: “I Didn’t Ask To Be Born”
A few weeks ago, a dude probably in his ’50s wearing high-waisted tan slacks (’80s minicomic artist archetype) brought a stack of tapes into my work for sale, all of it procured during his Factsheet-5-subscribin’ tape trader days. Plenty of it didn’t yank my crank, but there WERE three late 1980s tapes by Geoff Dugan (at least one of which, Everything Is Water, will be getting the official FM DUST reissue treatment in the coming month or so), and this total mystery band MAN AND HAMMER, whose tape I’ve been consistently drooling over since. Amazing, numbing, blown-out dunderhead industrial pounding, with no contact info or even credits, just a year (1989) and song titles. Whoa.
If any of you nerds out there know where this C-60 of pure magnetic gold originated, please contact me (ARCHAICFORMATS AT GMAIL DOT COM). I can’t get enough of this fucking thing. It’s the best thing I’ve heard since Zach Swagger.
