ORPHANAGE RATS- Forced To Drive
C30 cassette (edition of 48)
$5 USD
When I watched this dastardly duo (Knox Mitchell, who runs the Green label, and Sam Hooker, who just had a tape of his Tarpit project come out on Hanson) play awhile back at American Tapes 900 Inzanity Fest or whatever it was called, it was truly mind-boggling. Even John Olson, usually standing at gigs with a “seen-it-all” demeanor, looked perplexed, saying something about them sounding like a noise band from Genghis Khan times. Indeed: this band is a neo-brutarian freakshow of split reed sax, destroyed tape loops, TG/Coum damage, and general grossness that is rarely beat in the world of noise. Nothing harsh here except the vibe, and the truth… it’ll flex yr head back into its proper shape, or at least something resembling human.

CORNEA- Attunement
C30 cassette (edition of 48)
$5 USD
Cornea is Thom Elliott (plus a rotating cast incl. members of Orphanage Rats/Cold Turkey/Sail, but they ain’t on this one), he of Pleasuredome Tapez. A different beast from both his more PE-centered project Death Wish and his previous solo work under his given name, Cornea is Thom’s “rock” project, although only the most bent ears would deign to hear this racket as “rock”. Sure, there’s a guitar; yeah, there are words (buried in burbled effects, but still); but man, even Jandek would question the rocktitude of an endeavor such as this. That said, even if it don’t rock, it does roll… it’s just that maybe instead of yr ass, it’s rolling yr neck, and instead of crazy rhythms, it’s using a giant rolling pin. Or something. INTENSE!
NKHORN002
W by James Victor Yeary
12 pg, 5.5x4.25” (first edition of 50)
$2 USD
Portland, OR based Canuck expat James Victor Yeary is a proud continuation of the Berrigan/Joyce/Gysin/Cage/Elkins school of process poetics, melding mystical word jumble and sound freakery into a new language that is only English on the surface; while his work often evokes a story, the contents of the narrative are really supplied by the reader’s own dome. Nonsensical in the traditional (fascist) sense, but beautiful in its wordplay, W is a small but integral piece of the Yeary puzzle.
All of these will be available on the Archaic Formats site by the end of the day; they can be ordered as a batch (with bonus art!) for $10 US/$12 Canada and Mexico/$15 int’l. Send dough to ARCHAICFORMATS AT GMAIL DOT COM.
