There used to be this car that always parked down the street from my house, fucking covered with stickers. I think cars with lots of stickers are real annoying for some reason, and at the time, I thought the abundance of Wicca-related stickers on this particular vehicle made it doubly so.

Now, I’m not so sure. Maybe being a witch is awesome. Y’know, you think it’s about being evil and smiting your enemies and shit (which is kind of cool, anyway), but there are good witches too, right? For sure, because Gundella’s a good witch. She lived in Inkster (a small town outside of Detroit), taught witchcraft around town, and recorded this excellent private press LP of spells and stuff, The Hour Of The Witch.

Mind you, this isn’t a record I put on everyday, or even every week… but it’s sure something. First off, Gundella sounds way too nice to be a witch. Even the benevolent witches I picture are still kinda intense. She sounds more like a patient schoolteacher (appropriate, actually, given that that was her former occupation). Most of her spells are about finding love, as opposed to killing little kids or whatever, so that’s a nice sign, too. The haunted house background music is actually really disconcerting, in a way… if it wasn’t there, you probably wouldn’t even notice you were listening to a witchcraft record. It’s more like just “craft”, as in “arts &…”.
