DUST035
SKY THING: Your Reality Check Bounced
C20 cassette
$5 USD

Sky Thing is the banner under which Fort Wayne, IN-based multidisciplinary artist John Collins McCormick (and, on this particular release, his partner Megan Mirro) lets his flag fly, and what a compelling flag it is: truly exploratory through-composed sound sculptures utilizing household items, jerryrigged amplification, and the organic sounds that surround us everyday. Y’know, lotsa people namedrop John Cage, but few are actually listening to what he had to say. Luckily, such is not the case here. Sky Thing is highly studied without being academic, intellectually and spiritually challenging without being willfully obtuse. These live recordings (captured at Ypsilanti’s TOTALLY AWESOME FEST 7, as well as Myopic Books in Chicago and the Madame Art Gallery in Minneapolis) provide an aural time capsule of what were surely all special events (I can only personally vouch for the first). If you’re interested in “noise” for any reason other than to bother your roommates/parents/lover/self, you need this tape.

DUST036
SECRET PAJAMA POEMS FOR THE NEW AGE OF NONSENSE
C40 cassette

$5 USD

I first heard the recordings for this tape in Ian “MC Trashpedal” Fulcher’s car in 2006 (I think), and have been bothering Patrick Elkins to let me release it ever since. Patrick, you see, wrote all of the text for this poetry record, but many folks read on it, which may’ve been the reason for his years of hesitation. Fair enough… I still don’t know for a fact that we have every reader’s permission to issue this, and honestly, I’m not even sure who all is on it. All I know for sure is that this is one of my favorite poetry records to ever see the light of day. Fans of ESP-Disk, Kurt Schwitters, the first Red Crayola LP, Crass, and applesauce muffins: it may just be yours, as well!

SAIL- Blown Glass
C40 cassette
$5 USD

Sail is the deep new age mystery dwelling inhabited by Ypsilanti man-about-town Raphael Brim (who is also a member of the similarly zoned but more Eastern-tinged SUPER HIT). Raphael mostly jams this project solo-style these days (or should I say “daze”? Sorry, I had to do it), but a minute back he took to the road with fellow explorers Lyman Rhodes and Adam Kudla to spread the gospel. This set was recorded during that very soul journey, on Princeton Radio’s Music With Space program. Long form mostly-instrumental sway and float not not akin to fellow urban spacemen Sun Araw, Füxa, Flying Saucer Attack, or (and I mean this as the highest compliment) the most swirling and uplifting parts of The Doors’ first three LPs.
